Over the last few years here in Ontario, we haven’t really had that single large “boom” of fall colour where everything changes all at once, transforming the world to a warm fall wonderland. No, over the last few years fall has happened in phases, with what seems to be one species at a time going through its transition. Sometimes that means you have one species in full fall display where everything else is green, and other times that means you have one tree in fall colour and everything else is bare. While this can be a bit disappointing in that you don’t get as many iconic fall scenes, you can find something a little more unique as the seasons blend.
Here, I was immediately drawn to the stark contrast between summer and fall, with lovely purple flowers framing some early-changing trees. This is a great example of the seasons colliding, and it wouldn’t be expected in a year where everything changes at the same time. Sometimes you have to forget what you’re looking for in order to appreciate what you’ve got!
