Castle mountain is an icon in the Rockies. You can see this peak from the highway, and it stays in your view for a while as you make your way through the dramatic mountain valley. Without question, this is one of my favourite mountains in the area, and I’ve photographed it a whole bunch of times, though I’m not sure that I ever caught it from this angle, until this morning! Even better to capture it over some monumental blocks of ice. After a solid bit of hiking and snowshoeing, my friend Scott and I came across this wonderful spot. We spent a whole morning scouting here before coming back in time for Castle to light up the next morning. Lots of early-morning work, but absolutely worth it in my mind. The Rockies are an absolute treat for the eyes!
