While a lot of my images from the Rockies come from careful forethought, scouting, planning, and scrutinizing of weather reports (which, to be fair, is my friend Scott’s specialty), other images come from complete chance and luck.
While out scouting, Scott and I happened to see that this wonderful peak had some great conditions on this late morning. The wind was kicking up snow drifts off the mountain ridges, creating little snow tornadoes all over, while golden light spilled out from the fast-moving clouds to create tremendous drama and back-lit depth.
Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy planning out a shot and then seeing it come to life, but there’s definitely something special about stumbling on something interesting or weird, and finding success in capturing it. Good luck strikes again!
