Winter nights in the Rockies can have a certain stillness to them. The world feels like it has come to a halt, a quiet almost permeates the air, and the passing moonlight illuminates the stark white landscape. That stillness and silence almost comes with a feeling of tension to me; like the moment before a play or a movie begins. As if something special is happening that deserves attention, but no-one is there to see it or appreciate it. Witnessing those moments and feeling all of that makes them feel even more special – like I’ve stumbled on to some sort of secret event which I get to enjoy and appreciate in solitude. Capturing those moments is an incredible joy for me – it helps me to really isolate the feeling in that moment so that I can come back to it over and over. What a privilege it is to see these places.
