I can never get over the detail in scenes like these. The fine frost rimming each and every leaf, as well as how frost clings to top or bottom of the leaf differently. For whatever reason, frost really loved the underside of these leaves, but not the top. That created all kinds of interesting contrasts throughout this carpet of colour, and created a lot of opportunity for pattern and story telling. It wasn’t long before I found a scene which reflected the beauty of the maple leaf, and of course the flag.
