These cacti are everywhere in Tucson, and I couldn’t get over how they glowed in back light. In some spots, the cacti get incredibly dense and almost look like they’re dancing together. From up close, these plants take on even more character by bending, curling and reaching out in all directions, but carefully given their prickly nature.
This was a fun scene to shoot, for a lot of reasons. Firstly, being so close to these plants means you have to be very careful in placement of the camera to balance everything out. An inch to the right or to the left makes a big difference! In my tinkering to get this positioning correct, I must have spent a little too long looking toward the sun, and ended up losing my colour vision for a few hours. I only noticed when the mountains off in the distance turned green in the sunset light. Thankfully everything was back to normal by morning, but lesson learned. Nearly a costly photo shoot!
