Trilliums are a very well-known early spring flower around here, and for good reason. It’s the provincial flower, and it can absolutely carpet the forest floor under the right circumstances. And again, they only last a few weeks before they’re gone.
This spring I was able to find some absolutely stunning trillium scenes. The thickness of these plants absolutely swallowed some of the fallen trees, creating these wonderful seas of green and white surrounding the forest features. What’s even more interesting, these flowers are quite sensitive – they’re very easy to kill and don’t survive picking, but under the right conditions they can just spread like this. Something about all these sensitive flowers surrounding and growing over, under, and through fallen trees just really made me think of renewal. Life, as fragile as it can be, goes on and finds its way through the hard stuff, and every end begets a new beginning. That was a sentiment I had to carry with me this spring, and while I didn’t know it when I photographed this, I’m glad I eventually figured that out.
